August 5, 2020 NOTICE REGARDING BACK TO SCHOOL FALL 2020 |
|
A message from the Director of Education:
"Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is hard to believe it is August and school opening is a few weeks away. Teachers and students alike are excited and looking forward to a return to the classroom for learning in a new “normal”. At the same time, we also know that there are many of you who are also anxious and nervous about the reopening with concerns about your own wellbeing and that of your families. That is to be expected and understandable. Please be assured that we have done everything we can to enhance safety with physical distancing, limiting contact and cleaning protocols in our schools to reduce the risk as much as possible while following the health guidelines. Throughout the last several months, the safety of students and staff has always been of utmost concern and has informed all decisions by the province and by our school division. This “safety first” approach will continue as we keep the health and wellbeing of students, staff and families at the centre of everything we do.
On June 18, the provincial government provided direction and supporting guidelines to school divisions regarding the reopening of schools for the 2020-2021 school year. Today the provincial government released the Sask Safe Schools Plan.
We are pleased to share the accompanying Prairie Valley School Division Re-Open Plan with you here: Prairie Valley School Division - School Reopening Plan. We thank the staff at the Education Centre as well as School Based Administrators for their work this summer in helping develop this plan. Facilities staff have worked diligently over the summer to ensure all the necessary changes to the schools are ready when students and staff arrive.
The Ministry of Education with support from the Ministry of Health has endorsed our plan. We have worked closely with them throughout including this past month. The school re-open plan aligns with the Education Act, Board policies and procedures and direction of the Province and Chief Medical Officer’s recommendations. We want to assure you that the plan will continue to evolve as we continue to learn from our neighbouring provinces and countries about COVID and school safely re-opening. We will continue to adjust our plan over the next few weeks to accommodate any changes in direction that may come from the Chief Medical Health Officer and the provincial Response Planning Team. You will note in the plan that while we have outlined our school division’s expectations, given the diversity that we enjoy in all our schools and communities in size and grade configurations, there is also an opportunity for local school autonomy to help create the safest environment possible for our students, staff and families in their own unique context.
We hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful summer weather and taking some time to recharge. While there continues to be some uncertainty with COVID, we will do everything we can to respond to concerns and work together to make the re-opening of schools as safe as possible.
Thanks for your continued support and care for each other, students and families. We are in this together.
Take care and stay well,
Luc Lerminiaux, Director of Education and Janet Kotylak, Board Chair" |

Attention: Mayor and Council:
RE: Rescinding - Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory – Town of Balcarres
The Water Security Agency, in consultation with the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Authority, are
advising that the
“Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory”(PDWA) issued by the Water Security Agency for the Town of
Balcarres’s potable water system be rescinded as of 3:00 pm Thursday March 8, 2018.
The rescinding of the PDWA was based upon information provided by your community, which included:
• Water main repair has been completed;
• The pressure in the distribution system is back to normal operating pressure;
• The turbidity in the system is within regulatory requirements;
• Chlorine residuals throughout the WTP and distribution system are within regulatory
requirements; and
• Bacteriological sampling is within regulatory limits.
Your community may return to normal monitoring requirements as identified in your permits
monitoring schedule.
In closing, I would like to acknowledge that the Water Security Agency appreciates the efforts and
cooperation demonstrated by staff at your water treatment plant, as well as officials of the Town
of Balcarres in addressing the advisory.
Sincerely,
Derrick Hoehn, A.Sc.T.
